On Sunday, Sept. 11, over 100 United Methodists from Pulaski County in the Corbin District came together for their Summer Cluster Gathering at the Somersport Park in Somerset. The outdoor cluster event began at 4:00 pm with Recreation and Fellowship, Supper catered by "Sonny's" at 5:00 pm, and Praise and Worship at 6:00 pm.The Praise Team from the Somerset First UMC led in songs of praise and worship, and the Mission Team (Somerset First UMC, Science Hill UMC, St. Mildred Catholic Church) shared the highlights of their joint Mission Trip to Romania this summer (May 28-June 4). We are united in Christ (connected and clustered) all around the world!
Dr. Terry Faris, Corbin District Superintendent, brought the message in the form of his personal testimony. It was exactly 45 years ago (Sunday, Sept. 11, 1960) as a 14 year old sophomore in high school, that Terry knelt at the altar of the Central Methodist Church in his hometown of Maysville, Ky., and gave his heart and life to Jesus Christ.
"9/11" does not belong to the terrorists, but it belongs to God, and He is in the redeeming business, and goodness will triumph over evil because Jesus is Lord as we work together for every local church to be a "Love Station" as we are all together in the business of building a more Christ-like world!
The following Pulaski County Pastors were present with their people: Left to right: Troy Poff (Science Hill), Richard Held (Burnside), Glenn Cox (Fellowship), Terry Faris (Corbin D.S.), Allen Moran (Retired), Chuck Horton (Sardis Chapel), Bobby Sexton (Ferguson), Herb Godsey (Cooks Chapel/Ringgold), Mike Gregory (Mt. Zion), Ben Mitchell (Beech Grove), Lester Randolph (Shady Grove), Gary Woodall (Friendship), Doug Wilcoxson (Somerset First UMC and Leader of the Pulaski County Cluster).
Everyone is looking forward to the Oct. 13 Corbin District "Bishop's Hour" at the Corbin First UMC, as we are expecting again this year over 400 people from the 9 counties of the Corbin District.
The Pulaski County Fall Cluster Gathering will be the Cluster Charge/Church Conference at the Somerset First UMC on Sunday, Nov. 27, beginning at 6:00 pm.
