Jesus Renews Vision
By: Doug Wilcoxson, Pastor
Somerset UMC

John 15:5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, bears much fruit: for without me you can do nothing.

Abiding in Jesus, keeping in close personal contact with him, brings direction and power to our lives. This is true for the church was well.

Two Eskimos are sitting on the ice, fishing poles in hand. One has dropped his line through a tiny hole he has cut in the ice - the other has dropped his line in a large hole shaped like a whale. The caption under the cartoon is one word: Vision.

What we dream of doing and having impacts our present and future. Someone has said that vision is a picture of a preferred future which draws us forward - as United Methodist have we lost our vision? Statistical reports seem to say so. Sometimes I think I have! The Bible indicates that we perish without vision.

The "FLOWS" weekend, as I understand it, is to draw us into the presence of God that he might renew us in spirit helping us to see again what is possible in and through his power - for apart from Him we can do nothing!

Gracious Lord, in these weekends of worship and training across our district open our eyes to all we can be; and by the power of your spirit enable us to pursue the vision. Amen.
