Red Bird Mission Night Corbin District Superintendent, Terry Faris, was the guest preacher for the "Mission Night Worship Service" at the Red Bird Missionary Conference on May 14, preaching at the invitation of Bishop James King. The sanctuary of the Hope UMC at Henderson Settlement in Frakes, Ky. was "packed with people," and the presence and joy of the Lord filled His house. Wonderful music, liturgy, and sharing the theme "Lift High the Cross." A special mission offering was received for the East African Initiative.
Terry's message was "The Message of a Missionary," based on I Corinthians 15:1-11, with the two main points being: "The message of a missionary is NOT NEW" and "The message of a missionary is ALL ABOUT GRACE."
After the service, a reception was held to honor Bishop and Mrs. James King, and to celebrate the pastoral service of Rev. Ed and Mrs. Kathy Farmer, and Rev. Bob and Mrs. Elaine Landis upon their retirement. Also honored was Rev. Carol Crawford, who is commissioned as an elder and probationary member of the Red Bird Missionary Conference. During the reception, the Pastors/Spouses and Staff were given 60+ wooden crosses made by Rev. Earnest Mann, Pastor of the West Monticello Circuit in the Wayne County Cluster of the Corbin District.
