Lay Speakers Conference

The 2005 Lay Speakers Conference will be held at      Corbin First United Methodist Church on February 18 & 19, 2005. 

Lay Speakers are used in many aspects of the ministry.  Giving service in many areas to your church to help your pastor’s.  Whether it is by being a greater, helping serve communion, working as an usher, or helping spread God’s word. 

Basic Lay Speakers courses are offered once per year and will give you a general over view of the United Methodist Church and how you may help serve.  This course is    required before attending the Advanced Course.

Lay Speaking Ministry Witnesses to the Christian Faith by:  Helping start at new church school class; guiding bible study; serving on committees in your local church; or reaching out with love in times of crises. Annual reports on what you are doing in your life are files with the conference.

Your instructor’s for the Basic Course will be:  Henry Hull

• Pastor of Friendship United Methodist Church
• Married for 16 years to Vicki and the father of two children, Michelle and David, both of which are Lay Speakers.

 

 

Certified Lay Speakers may serve in other congregations and in conference projects and programs. To be certified you must complete the basic course and complete the advanced course.  Annual reports of what your participation and how you continue to learn are needed.  A completion for re-certification is needed every three years.

This years Advanced Course study will be:

“A Study of “Science and Christianity: Conflict or Coherence?” This is based upon a book of the same name by Henry Schaeffer, Ph.D. and will be taught by, Dr. William A. Caudill. 

Here is a little about Dr. Caudill. 

He has completed his studies and has attended:

• BS (Bachelor of Science in Zoology), University of Kentucky, 1972
• DMD (Doctorate of Dental Medicine), University of Louisville, 1977
• Specialty Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, 1981
• Private Practice in Pediatric Dentistry,

               Somerset, KY 1981-Present.

Other Activities:

• President and Founder of
• HealthPros Consulting Corporation,

Briarwood, Inc. and Caudill Oil Company.

• Member of First United Methodist Church, Somerset, KY since 1981.
• Certified Lay Speaker.
• Married for 31 years to Joanne with three children Kelly, Jenna, and Daniel.  Grandfather to Trey and Parker Adams (Kelly’s children).

He has completed his studies and has attended:

• Western Kentucky University - 4 Years on football team.
• University of Louisville Pediatrics
• University of Southern California Medical Center.
• Fellowship of Newborn Medicine at Children’s Hospital, Washington, D.C.
• Associate Professor of Pediatrics at George Washington University, University of Tennessee
• Private practice in Somerset since 1978.
• Avid support of FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes)
• Very active practice for children with ADHD National Advisory Board for ADHD.
• Member of Science Hill United Methodist Church.  Married for 38 years to Joyce and father of two sons, Michael & Tyler.

Turn RIGHT onto Adams Road.  Cracker Barrel is beside hotel.
