Why Young People Go to Church
Jessica Wesley March 31, 2004

To the pastor,

Concerning your question posed to me recently stating "What would you look for when selecting a church to attend?", the following summarizes a list of what myself & my peers feel are the most important aspects of church. If the selection were left up to us, these would be the things we would look for:

  1. A church on fire for God.
  2. A strong youth ministry.
  3. A church that assists others in the community.
  4. A pastor that cares about seeing souls saved.
  5. A fun, exciting & educational youth group.
  6. The pastor & congregation genuinely care, & you feel welcome.
  7. Lots of singing.
  8. Clean, neat & modern facilities.
  9. A comfortable atmosphere.
  10. A church that demonstrates acceptance of different races & backgrounds.
  11. Shows concern for the well-being of others in the community.
  12. An abundance of Christian youth activities.
  13. Ample chances for youth to be involved in ministry.
  14. A pastor willing to baptize in accordance with the wishes of the one being baptized.
  15. A church supportive of others in times of need, uncertainty & struggle.
  16. Interesting sermons & classes. (Challenge our minds!)

I want to thank you for allowing me to participate in this survey. It has made me think about what churches need to be successful.

Sincerely,

Jessica Wesley
